Upcoming Fundraisers

Annual Fund Drive
In October we will be sending out Annual Fund Drive letters to all current staff and families as well as alumni. Please give whatever amount you can, or consider donating a product or service to the day care. We appreciate any and all support of our program and the service we provide to the community. For more information on the Annual Fund Drive, please visit our Giving page.

In addition to the Annual Fund Drive, this fall we again will be holding a Flower Power fundraiser. This is a great way for friends and family to buy beautiful flower bulbs while supporting our program!

40 Years Celebration and Fun-raiser
2014 marks our 40th year of providing quality child care and early education in the Pioneer Valley. To mark the occasion, we held a Fun-raiser party on June 14, 2014 at the Montague Common Hall. Many friends and family came together to eat delicious food and listen and dance to some of the Pioneer Valley's finest musicians: Rebirth; Soul Works (with Manou Africa from ReBelle); and Ras Daniel (of The Head Band). In addition to a wonderful celebration, the party raised $450! A huge thanks to Panda East, Crazy Noodles, Big Y, Stop & Shop, Henion Bakery and the families and friends of HFCDC who donated food for the event !

Front Door Replacement Project
We also have received a grant from the Community Foundation of western Massachusetts, which we used to fund replacement of our front entryway door. The Community Foundation's support of our program is extremely appreciated!

Preschool Arts Program
Thanks to TargetŪ, HFCDC is able to continue our Preschool Arts Program. Funds from the TargetŪ grant will be used to bring local artists in to the classroom to conduct music and art workshops with the children. We are truly grateful to TargetŪ for assisting us with this educational program!

Our Pollinator Garden is Growing Butterflies!
When we first noticed caterpillars on the milkweed plants in our pollinator garden we brought some inside (along with lots of leaves to eat) so that the kids could get to see the whole process of them changing into butterflies. The photos below show the progression of the caterpillars getting nice and fat, the chrysalises they've constructed, showing the different colors they turn as the pupa develops inside, and then the butterfly emerging from the chrysalis. The kids sure loved watching it all happen!

Nature Exploration at Daycare

This past spring the preschoolers spent many enjoyable hours learning about the ecology of daycare's grounds through the "Animals Around Us" program. This nature-based program, taught by DeerPaths, used a combination of outdoor exploration and indoor classroom activities to instill interest and excitement in the natural world. An important element of the program was having the children use what they learned to create wonderful works of nature-themed art!
